PSV Coach Fred Rutten Rues Poor Defending Against Excelsior

Eredivisie giants PSV put in a far from impressive performance in the away match against Excelsior on Saturday evening, but the Eindhoven side eventually did enough to record a 3-2 victory. Nevertheless, head coach Fred Rutten wasn't too pleased with their effort.

"I’m obviously happy to take three points from my side’s 2-3 win at Excelsior. I think we started the game well and got some fine chances," Rutten was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"Yet poor defending saw us concede a goal and we were made to chase the game. We scored two goals in quick succession after the restart and attempted to kill off the game by scoring a third goal.

"However, Excelsior scored a 90th minute equaliser from the spot, so we’re lucky to come away with all three points."

PSV currently sit atop of the Eredivisie table with 57 points from 26 games. They have a three-point lead over Twente.
