PSV's Ola Toivonen Collects Four-Match Ban For Elbowing Ajax Stopper Jan Vertonghen

PSV will have to make do without Ola Toivonen for a while due to suspension.
Eredivisie table toppers PSV will have to make do without the services of versatile attacker Ola Toivonen for a while, as the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has handed the Swedish attacker a retrosepctive four-match ban for an elbow incident during the weekend stalemate against Ajax.

The 24-year-old played for the full 90 minutes in last weekend's scoreless draw against the Amsterdam club, but made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when he elbowed Jan Vertonghen after a corner kick in the second half.

The referee failed to spot the clash, but video footage clearly showed Toivonen's action, and the KNVB consequently decided to open an investigation into the matter, eventually deciding to suspend the Swedish forward for four matches.

PSV will not lodge an appeal against the ban, meaning that the attacker will miss the games against Excelsior, NEC, Utrecht and Twente as a result.

Toivonen is PSV's joint leading goalscorer this term, with 13 goals from 24 Eredivisie games.
