Heerenveen striker Bas Dost appeared to be on his way to Amsterdam powerhouse Ajax on the final day of the winter transfer window, but the transfer eventually collapsed as the two clubs failed to reach an agreement about a transfer fee.
The Holland under-21 star even tried to force a move to the Godenzonen by starting an arbitration case, but Dost was denied a move by the court as well, much to the disappointment of the former Heracles star.
"I really didn't enjoy going to the club to play football for several months. After the winter break, I was raring to go again after a good conversation with the coach. However, he then benched me again, which was a huge blow for me," said Dost to De Telegraaf.
"I've really done my utmost and I want to have fun here and play for Heerenveen. That's impossible though and that's why I wanted to leave.
"I was really disappointed when I heard people say that I only wanted to leave for the money. It hurts to hear this kind of thing. I already make enough money. I just want to play football and that's why I wanted to join Ajax."
