Reigning Eredivisie champions Twente have completed the transfer of American defender Oguchi Onyewu from Serie A table toppers Milan. The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Tukkers were looking to add another defender to their squad because of the ongoing uncertainty about the future of Brazilian centre-back Douglas and head coach Michel Preud'homme has now gotten his man.

Onyewu started his European career with Metz and also wore the jerseys of La Louviere, Standard Liege and Newcastle United before joining Milan in the summer of 2009. However, he failed to secure regular first team action at the Rossoneri.

The USA international has opted to leave San Siro in an attempt to relaunch his career in the Netherlands and can't wait to make his debut for the Eredivisie outfit.

"I am very excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to join Dutch giants FC Twente," Onyewu told the press.

"After a dismal past 14 months plagued with a serious injury and managerial changes, my enthusiasm to have the chance to regularly be on the field cannot be expressed in words. I am more than ready to do what I love, which is play football at the highest level," he concluded.
