Austrian powerhouse Rapid Vienna have confirmed the transfer of towering striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. The former Dutch international has signed a two-year deal with the Europa League hopefuls.
The 31-year-old started his professional career with PSV and also played at Celtic before joining Hull City in the summer of 2009. Vennegoor of Hesselink was released on a free transfer by the Championship side earlier this summer.
"I received several interesting offers from European clubs. However, Rapid's offer gave me and my family the best feeling. This club and this city made it an easy decision for me to join Rapid. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career," said Vennegoor of Hesselink on the club's official website.
Rapid Vienna somewhat surprisingly eliminated Aston Villa in the play-off of the Europa League. They will face Porto, Besiktas and CSKA Sofia in the group stage and will be hopeful that Vennegoor of Hesselink can help the Vienna side to a succcessful Europa League campaign.
