Former Feyenoord ace Giovanni van Bronckhorst has admitted that it may take some getting used to instructing his former team-mates in his new capacity as one of the coaches at the Eredivisie club.
After retiring from competitive football after the World Cup final, Van Bronckhorst took a brief holiday but arrived back on the training ground on Friday for his first session as coach of his new club. It was an experience he found almost surreal.
“Of course it is strange to suddenly stand as coach for these guys,” he smiled to the club’s official website. “On the other hand, it is fun to stay very close to this group this way.”
Head coach Mario Been was pleased with what he saw from his new recruit. “The boys know what they have to give him and they are easily able to talk with him. Moreover, many boys will learn a lot from his experience,” the coach stated.
Feyenoord started their campaign with a 3-1 home win over Utrecht last weekend and face Excelsior this Sunday away from home.
