Ajax Goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer Out For Six Months With Ruptured Achilles Tendon

The young goalie faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines...
Ajax have received some troubling news on the injury front ahead of the league match at home against Vitesse on Saturday evening.

Head coach Martin Jol will be without the services of back-up goalie Kenneth Vermeer after the popular glovesman picked up an Achilles tendon injury during Thursday's training session.

A report on the club's official website confirms the unfortunate news for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. Vermeer immediately visited the hospital for further examination and a scan has revealed that the former Holland Under-21 star will be unavailable for about six months.

Vermeer is a product of the Ajax youth academy and has made 23 Eredivisie appearances for the Amsterdam side since making his official debut in 2008-09. He played one league game last season.

The shot stopper will likely be replaced by former Volendam custodian Jeroen Verhoeven during his absence.
