OFFICIAL: AZ's Mounir El Hamdaoui Joins Ajax

El Hamdaoui is finally ready to complete his summer switch and has inked a deal with Ajax...
Eredivisie outfit AZ have confirmed that highly rated attacker Mounir El Hamdaoui has left the Alkmaar side for an adventure at Ajax for an undisclosed fee. The Morocco international has signed a four-year deal with the Amsterdam side.

The striker spent much of Thursday evening locked in talks with officials from the Godenzonen and weeks of speculation have now finally come to an end with an official announcement confirming the deal.

Ajax were in the market for a new striker following the release of Serbian attacker Marko Pantelic earlier this summer.

With the Johan Cruyff Shield to be played on Saturday against Twente, Ajax hope that they can complete the forward’s paperwork quickly enough to have him in their squad in time for the encounter.

The 26-year-old forward first made his breakthrough with Excelsior in the 2001 season, though a move to Tottenham Hotspur four years later did not result in a single league appearance. Following a brief but successful spell with Willem II, El Hamdaoui moved to AZ, where he caught light once more, scoring 48 times in 81 Eredivisie games.
