Ajax coach Martin Jol will have to make do without the services of Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen in the first two matches of the 2010-11 campaign due to a suspension.
The KNVB (Dutch football association) has decided to hand the versatile defender a two-match ban for his comments during the celebration ceremony after Ajax's KNVB Beker victory.
Vertonghen was handed a microphone during the celebration and verbally insulted the fans of Ajax's rivals Feyenoord. The 23-year-old apologised more than once for his behaviour, but the KNVB still decided to suspend him.
It remains to be seen though whether the suspension will affect Vertonghen next season. The Belgian international is continually being linked with a move to a bigger club and could be on his way to Everton.
