Heerenveen coach Jan de Jonge has made the decision to step down from his duties in the aftermath of the club's disappointing 3-1 Eredivisie loss against VVV on Tuesday.
The 46-year-old had been in charge since replacing the fired Trond Sollied in September 2009. However, de Jonge never really got things going at Heerenveen and has now decided to throw in the towel.
"I've done my utmost to turn things around at the club, but it is simply not working. Therefore, I will leave things in the board's hands again," said De Jonge on the club's official website.
However, de Jonge will continue to work at the club. The former head coach will pick up the position of head of Heerenveen's youth academy again.
Heerenveen are struggling to find their best form this term and sit only joint 14th in the table. Additionally, they were eliminated in the group stage of the Europa League.
