Highly rated attacker Luis Suarez has been linked with a move away from Ajax more than once in the past couple of months, but the Uruguayan international has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension.
Suarez's previous contract with the Amsterdam powerhouse was due to expire in the summer of 2012, but the tricky forward has now inked a deal keeping him in Amsterdam until June 2013.
"I've been negotiating a new contract with Ajax, while everybody out there was speculating about my future. I'm very happy in Amsterdam and I'm glad to have signed a new contract," said Suarez on the official Ajax website.
"Ajax are a great club and the team is still improving. I'm confident that we can achieve a lot under this head coach [Martin Jol]. The signing of Nicolas Lodeiro was exactly what we needed and that convinced me to stay at Ajax."
Suarez joined Ajax from Groningen in the summer of 2007. The 23-year-old has made 116 appearances for the Eredivisie giants so far, scoring 80 goals in the process.
