Eredivisie outfit Vitesse have completed the transfer of former Feyenoord defender Serginho Greene. The versatile defender has been a free agent ever since he left the Rotterdam side last summer.
Trial periods at Italian outfit Catania and French side Nice were unsuccessful, prompting Greene to return to The Netherlands. The 27-year-old did already train at Vitesse for a number of weeks.
"Serginho proved on the training pitch that he has what it takes to improve our team. Head coach Theo Bos had already asked me to sign him, but we initially lacked the financial resources," Vitesse technical director Marc van Hintum said to De Gelderlander.
"However, a sponsor stepped up who was willing to pay Greene's wages, offering us the possibility to sign him. He can play as a right-back, centre-back and as a holding midfielder and adds to our options."
The defender is a product of the Ajax youth academy, but never made it into the first team in Amsterdam. He also played at Haarlem and RKC Waalwijk before ending up at Feyenoord in 2005.
