Highly rated youngster Eljero Elia has scooped up the Eredivisie talent of the year award. A panel of experts lead by former Barcelona legend Johan Cruijff picked the 22-year-old over hot prospects such as Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Dembele and Gregory van der Wiel.
The award was won by Ajax youngster Miralem Sulejmani last season and was also won by players such as Ibrahim Afellay, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Salomon Kalou, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben in the past couple of seasons.
Elia has developed into an indispensable player at Twente this campaign with his superb performances. The tricky winger made 34 league appearances, scoring nine goals.
His intelligent movement and silky dribbles on the left wing attracted the interest of several big teams. Ajax, PSV, Hamburger SV and Manchester City are all monitoring Elia's situation.
The speedy attacker will most likely leave Twente this summer. Elia has a limited fee release clause in his current contract and Twente have to let go of the attacker if a team makes a €9.6 million offer.
