Highly rated head coach Mario Been recently announced his decision to leave NEC for Feyenoord next summer and the Nijmegen outfit have been looking for a replacement ever since.
According to De Telegraaf, the Eredivisie outfit have now made Dwight Lodeweges their primary target. The 51-year-old PSV coach's deal at the Eindhoven side expires in 2010.
Lodeweges has been in charge at PSV ever since former Schalke boss Huub Stevens left the Eindhoven side in January.
NEC initially targeted Jong Ajax coach Adrie Koster as their new manager, but Koster's reportedly on the verge of being appointed as head coach at Belgian giants Club Brugge.
They were also interested in signing Willem II coach Alfons Groenendijk and had already reached personal terms. However, Groenendijk eventually opted to stay at the Tilburg outfit.
