Champions League Qualifying Special: Five More Games To Consider As Sampdoria Bid For A Wembley Return

Odds supplied by Titan Bet

Five more Champions League play-off first leg qualifiers are on the agenda on Wednesday with plenty of markets worth having a punt on. Let's take a look at the odds for the matches.

The Italian Job?

Match Odds: Werder Bremen 1.67, Draw 3.43, Sampdoria 4.52

Without a doubt the juiciest of all ten play-off matches. Considering the quality in both teams it's a shame that one of them will fail to reach the group stage of Europe's most elite club competition.

Werder are a short price at 1.67 and the bookies are basing that on Bremen's Champions League pedigree and fine record against Italian opposition. In 13 games at the Weserstadion where they have faced a Serie A team the Germans have won seven and drawn six. Similarly they boast an impressive record in two legged ties when they play a team from the peninsula clocking up seven wins and two defeats.

The Germans were thrashed 5-1 by Fulham in pre-season and preparations haven't been helped by Mesut Oezil's transfer to Real Madrid. For their opponents, pre-season hasn't been great either losing three games and managing to chalk up just a single goal.

Sampdoria punched above their weight last season to finish a superb fourth in Serie A. Coach Luigi Del Neri has departed for Juventus leaving Domenico Di Carlo with the difficult task of managing the club's first stab at this competition since they went all the way to the final at Wembley in 1992. Next year's final is at the new Wembley but the Italians will have to negotiate a very difficult first leg before they can dream of making a return to London in May.

Odds of 4.52 on a Sampdoria win are very appealing considering their 100% winning record over two legs against German opposition including just one defeat in eight games. Yes, we are going back many years but there are optimistic noises coming out of the Italian camp.

“We need to pull off a typical Sampdoria performance,” Fernando Tissone declared to SkySport. “With all due respect to Werder Bremen, we mustn’t have any fear of the opposition."

Bear in mind that no Italian team has even beaten Bremen at home so we can expect this match to be tight given what is at stake.

* Half time draw - 2.11

* Under 2.5 goals - 1.87

Iberian Derby

Match Odds: Sporting Braga 2.77, Draw 3.07, Sevilla 2.36

An Iberian derby to savour pitting last year's Liga Sagres runners up against the Spanish Champions League veterans.

Braga battered Celtic 3-0 in Portugal when they were brilliantly priced at 1.90. Few should have been surprised with the rout as the Scottish outfit have a dreadful record on the road in Europe plus Braga are excellent at home. Last season they finished in a best ever second spot in the league and went the entire campaign unbeaten at the Estadio AXA. Braga only shipped 20 goals all season (just six at home) which was the same as league champions Benfica.

Sevilla warmed up in style with a 20 minute demolition of Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Los Rojiblancos have a decent record away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Europe winning five and drawing one of the last nine. Six of those games have gone over 2.5 goals. Sevilla's last memory of the Champions League isn't so sweet as they were knocked out by CSKA Moscow last March.

Any game at the unique Estadio AXA is worth watching and this tie is no different. Once again the odds are generous in Braga's favour with the Portuguese side well priced to be leading at half-time as they were in both legs against Celtic.

* Braga to win the first half - 3.56

* Under 2.5 goals - 1.99

Tough Task For Serbs

Match Odds: Partizan 2.60, Draw 3.18, Anderlecht 2.43

Partizan will need to be rocking as well priced Anderlecht pull into town. The Serbs went the entire season unbeaten last year to win their domestic league but have a poor record against Belgian opposition losing the past three games. Partizan have won all four of their European games so far notching up three goals at home in both ties in Belgrade.

Anderlecht showed their class against The New Saints in the previous round winning 6-1 on aggregate. After being tanked 8-2 by Lyon last season the Belgians know this is their best opportunity to reach the Champions League group stage since 2006-07. Anderlecht's rivals Brugge turned over Partizan last November 4-2 in Belgrade in the Europa League.

* Both teams to score - 1.83

Austrians Out For Revenge

Match Odds: Salzburg 1.76, Draw 3.29, Hapoel Tel Aviv 4.14

Revenge will clearly be on the agenda for Red Bull Salzburg, who were defeated by Israeli opposition 12 months ago at the same stage of the Champions League. Hapoel Tel Aviv are playing their first game at this level since 2000 and can point towards some good results against Austrian opposition in the Europa League for inspiration. The Israelis thrashed Rapid Vienna 8-1 over both matches in last year's Europa League. They are unlikely to be scared of a trip to Salzburg.

* Over 2.5 goals - 2.13/ Under 2.5 goals - 1.63

Sheriff To Swiss Roll Over?

Match Odds: Basel 1.33, Draw 4.34, Sheriff Tiraspol 7.79

Basel are the shortest price of all the ties to win against ten times reigning Moldovan Champions Sheriff Tiraspol. Twelve months ago Sheriff were eliminated by Olympicaos 3-0 on aggregate at the same stage but unlike that match they have the second leg at home. Basel emerged victorious from a potentially tricky match against Debrecen winning 5-1 over two legs in the last round. The Swiss team should have too much for their opponents and are bidding for a return to the Champions League group stage which they last graced in 2008-09.

* FC Basel (-1, -1.5) - 1.90
