AC Milan's Antonio Nocerino: I am not the new Gennaro Gattuso

The AC Milan man prefers his left-sided role and he rejected comparisons with the World Cup 2006 winner as he hailed the national team after their 1-1 draw with Serbia
Italy midfielder Antonio Nocerino has moved to clarify his position on the pitch and claims he is not a replacement for Gennaro Gattuso.

The AC Milan star has won plenty of credit following his summer move from Palermo, and he has earned a regular place in the Italy squad.

Nocerino featured in Friday's Group C Euro 2012 qualifer against Serbia as a substitute and put in an accomplished display during the 1-1 draw in Belgrade.

However, he does not think his combative performances mirror those of Milan team-mate Gattuso.

"I am not and I will not be the new Gattuso," Nocerino told Rai Sport.

"I am a left-sided midfielder, Gattuso was one of the best midfielders in the world. From my position I can play more of the ball and have a better view of the game."

Italy take on Northern Ireland on Tuesday in their final qualifier. The Italians are already through to Poland and Ukraine, and Nocerino credits coach Cesare Prandelli for the progress.

"We enjoy football with Prandelli. He has a great idea for our play which is very interesting," he said.

Kick-off against Northern Ireland is at 2045 (CET) in Pescara on October 11.
