Novak Djokovic hails Serbia after Under-20 World Cup glory against Brazil

The tennis No.1 and reigning Wimbledon champion took to Twitter to congratulate his young compatriots after their heroics in New Zealand

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has hailed Serbia’s squad after they saw off Brazil to claim the under-20 World Cup.

With the game tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Nemanja Maksimovic hit the winner with just three minutes of extra-time remaining to secure Serbia’s first title as an independent nation.

Serbia faced heavy pressure from a Brazilian side looking for their sixth title and were forced to call on the heroics of goalkeeper Pedrag Rajkovic time and again.

Stanisa Mandic had given the his side a shock lead on 70 minutes before Manchester United youngster Andreas Pereira brought Brazil back on level terms with a fine individual effort.

Brazil had not conceded a goal since the opening game, going over 500 minutes before goalkeeper Jean finally saw his net breached.

And World Tennis no.1 and reigning Wimbledon champion Djokovic wasted no time in taking to Twitter to congratulate his compatriots for upsetting the odds.
