2019/20 PSL champions will walk away with R15 million in prize money

The league has announced an increase in prize money for the champions, ahead of the upcoming domestic season

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that the 2019/20 league winners will walk away with a whopping R15 million in prize money.

Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza confirmed the increase on Wednesday morning at the PSL's headquarters in Johannesburg, saying that runners-up will pocket R7.5m and the team finishing third will secure a cool R3.75m.

On the other hand, the league’s governing body has also confirmed PSL fixtures for the opening weekend of the 2019/20 season where the reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns will face cross-town rivals SuperSport United on Saturday, August 3 and the game is scheduled to get underway at 15:00 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Having signed the likes of Bongani Sam and Tshegofatso Mabasa from Bloemfontein Celtic, last season’s runners-up Orlando Pirates will welcome Phunya Sele Sele at Orlando Stadium.

In addition, Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City will travel to Baroka FC on the same day, whilst newbies Stellenbosch FC will welcome Clinton Larsen’s Chippa United at Coetzenburg Stadium on Saturday.

In one of the highly anticipated clashes of the new campaign, Kaizer Chiefs will travel to Tembisa to renew their rivalry against Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium and the match kicks-off at 15:00 on Sunday, August 4.

Meanwhile, 2016/17 PSL champions Bidvest Wits are away to Cavin Johnson's AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Completing the weekend's fixtures is Steve Komphela's Golden Arrows will lock horns against Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on the same day whilst Polokwane City meet Black Leopards in another derby.
