Sporting Kansas City 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps: Hosts bag much needed points

The near-bottom clubs battled it out on Saturday, but it was the home side who would grab the coveted three points
A battle of basement clubs left the Vancouver Whitecaps looking up at the league after Sporting Kansas City came form behind to claim a 2-1 win at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park on Saturday night.

Davide Chiumiento and Camilo combined early to give Vancouver a lead just 15 minutes into the match, with Camilo heading home Chiumiento's service.

But Sporting responded in the 32nd minute when former Mexican international Omar Bravo drew a penalty after a foul from former USA international Jay DeMerit. Bravo knocked home the spot-kick to level the scoring, and wouldn't waste much time in helping it gain a lead.

Just eight minutes later the Mexican headed a corner back across the face of goal to Julio César, who smashed home the match winner.

The second half was much less eventful with only a handful of chances going either way, and the home fans saw their team create a bit of distance between itself and the bottom of the table.
