Giuseppe Rossi Dedicates Italy Brace To American Relatives

Italy opened their account in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup with a hard fought 3-1 victory over a ten man United States outfit.

The Americans took a shock lead just prior to the interval, when Landon Donovan coolly converted a spot kick, despite his side having ten men on the pitch.

The second half was a different story though, as three sensational goals for the Azzurri, including two from Giuseppe Rossi as well as one to Daniele De Rossi, allowed the Italians to ease to victory.

Following the contest, the super-sub Rossi shared his thoughts on the performance of his side on the night.

“I am pleased with the outcome of the match, and obviously to score twice makes me very happy,” Rossi declared in an interview with La Repubblica.

“The U.S started well, however in the second half they were a little tired, and we took full advantage of that. We managed to score three great goals.

“All the boys and all of the staff were great, so this could be a good tournament for us.”

The American born Italian striker closed out the interview by dedicating his brace to his family back home.

He continued, “I would like to dedicate my goals to my family who were watching from America.”
