World Cup 2010: Manchester City Striker Roque Santa Cruz 'Proud' Of Paraguay's Performance In Losing To Spain

Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz has expressed his pride at his nation’s performances at this summer’s World Cup, despite being knocked out by Spain in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

The South Americans surprised the world with their displays at this summer’s tournament in South Africa, knocking out Japan, before exiting in a closely fought contest with Spain.

"We can be proud of how far we have come in this competition, in the World Cup,” the Manchester City striker exclusively told Goal.com.

The Manchester City striker also singled out his nation’s performance against Spain, insisting that they did their country proud despite defeat.

He added: “Today's performance was excellent and we could not ask for more against Spain. We are proud of this, and we leave with our heads up."
