France Training Session Halted Following Altercation; Squad Backing Anelka

les Bleus crisis in South Africa continues to deepen...
The French squad were once more plunged into disarray today after a series of incidents left their participation in the tournament in doubt, including a training ground bust-up which called a premature halt to this morning’s session.

L’Equipe comments that coach Raymond Domenech was involved in a heated discussion with captain Patrice Evra and fitness coach Robert Duverne, which resulted in the latter throwing his accreditation to the ground in frustration.

The players then proceeded to remove themselves from the training pitch and return to the bus, where they are expected to return to their hotel to regroup.

In the midst of the chaos, French Football Federation director Jean-Louis Valentin has announced his intention to resign from his position and return to Paris.

He is quoted as saying, “I am nauseated and disgusted, and this is a scandal for the Federation, the team of France and the entire country. They do not want to be involved, and it is unacceptable.”

It is understood that the squad are in opposition to Domenech’s decision to send striker Nicolas Anelka home from the squad after the Chelsea man made disparaging remarks following the 2-0 defeat to Mexico on Thursday evening.

Les Bleus are expected to face South Africa in their final group match versus hosts South Africa on Tuesday.
