World Cup 2010: Spain Striker David Villa Upbeat Despite Switzerland Defeat

La Furia Roja can rectify the situation...
Spain striker David Villa has insisted that la Furia Roja are still very much alive despite their 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in their opening Group H World Cup game in Durban.

Villa also explained that the defeat is evidence that there are no easy games at the World Cup and declared that they must be at their best in every game.

"We have not done things like we should, but we are still in competition, we are still as alive as ever. We know that if we win the two remaining games we are in the knockout phase," he is quoted as saying by Marca.

"The competition has shown us that there is no easy opponent and on a bad day things can happen to you like what happened today. On a positive note, we are in the group stages and after a bad day we are not eliminated.

"We think of Honduras in the match and we must think about nothing other than winning the next two. We struggled to find the depth, we played with our usual style, but at times they defended well, other times we lacked the final ball but we have to think about the next game."
