World Cup 2010: Jonas Gutierrez: I Feel Comfortable At Right Back For Argentina

The Newcastle player defended himself against criticism after the Nigeria game, and stated his determination to continue in the team.
Argentina midfielder Jonas Gutierrez told press that he "felt comfortable" playing out of position at right back against Nigeria on Saturday, and is happy to continue in the defensive line.

Gutierrez had come in for some criticism after the match, with many analysts saying he is not solid enough defensively to fill the important position. Goal.com awarded him a rating of 5.5, placing him as the Seleccion's second worst player of the match.

But the Newcastle man insisted that he could fill the role for Argentina during an interview with Ole.

"It was good, I felt good playing there," the player asserted strongly, dismissing claims that he is unfamiliar with the role.

"I have played there in Mallorca and also for the national team against Peru and Canada. I know the position well."

Whispers from the Albiceleste training camp suggest Nicolas Burdisso is in line to take over on the right, with the Roma man training there on Sunday. But Jonas will not give up his place in the team without a fight, and is convinced of his aptitude.

"There is no way I would fill in any position for the team if it was going to do them harm. But I feel comfortable at right back, and the team was strong in defence."
