Former German international Thomas Berthold was left delighted by tonight’s 4-0 victory over Australia that saw Die Mannschaft shoot to the top of Group D.
“This was an easy Opening match for Germany,” the former Roma and Bayern Munich defender told SuperSport.
“It was like a first division side playing against a second division team, that is what it seemed like to me.”
Berthold, who was part of Germany’s world cup winning squad in 1990 went on to reveal that he thought the group would now be decided in the final group game when Germany take on Ghana.
“Now I think Ghana will beat Australia and set up a good last group game between Germany and Ghana,” he said.
Germany face Serbia in their second Group D fixture on Friday before rounding off the first round against Ghana in Johannesburg in ten days time.
