Portugal midfielder Pepe has expressed his delight after finally returning to first-team action yesterday against Mozambique following a lengthy lay-off with injury.
“Getting into the game felt like it was the first one of my life and I was quite anxious,” admitted the Real Madrid man who hasn’t appeared in almost six months after tearing his ACL.
"I would like to thank everyone for all their support over this time,” he told the club's official website.
The Real Madrid defender, who operates in a defensive midfield role for his country went on to express his regret that team-mates Nani and Ze Castro will miss out through injury and insisted he was ready to play whatever role Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz had in mind for him.
“We want to do well in this World Cup and be able to dedicate it to Nani and Ze Castro,” he said. “The competition begins this week and I am ready to play.”
