Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has revealed that tricky winger Arjen Robben will not be recovered in time to take part in Oranje's opening game against Denmark on June 14.
The Bayern Munich star sustained a hamstring injury in Holland's 6-1 international friendly win against Hungary last weekend and is currently working on his recovery with physio Dick van Toorn.
"Arjen won't play in the match against Denmark. He has hardly been able to train or play since Bayern's loss in the Champions League final and I don't want to take any risks," said Van Marwijk at a press conference.
"He has quite a serious injury and it's pretty much impossible to return to full match fitness that quickly. He will travel to South Afica in the coming days and I'll know when he will be available again pretty soon.
"It's our target to get him match fit in time to play at the World Cup. I don't want to set a date for his return though. We just have to be patient. It's all about Arjen's health at the moment."
