World Cup 2010: Milan's Alessandro Nesta Will Not Return To The Italy Team - Marcello Lippi

The coach has spoken with Nesta who told him the bad news...
Alessandro Nesta will not return to the Italy national team for the World Cup, said Marcello Lippi on Monday.

There have been widespread calls for Nesta's return, and his outstanding form for Milan this season emphasized the need for his return.

But, after considering Lippi's proposition, Nesta turned down the chance for one last hurrah with the Azzurri.

"He told me, I believe in a definite way, that he does not feel like it [returning to Italy]," he told the press

"I am sorry as I wanted to give a shock, but I respect his decision."

Amauri, who receives his Italian citizenship on Wednesday, has been told to wait for a decision on his Italy future.

"Amauri? We will see in a few days when I give my response," he continued.

Another hopeful of making the senior squad is Inter's Mario Balotelli, but, like Amauri, he needs to prove his worth.

"I hope Balotelli plays really well for the Under-21 team," he added.

"Inter are doing well to help him develop and he will be useful in future to la Nazionale."

The new World Cup Italy shirt was unveiled, and Lippi hopes it brings the team some luck.

"The national team shirt is more than just a fabric. I have seen many shirts, but I hope this is lucky like the other ones," he concluded.
