Xhaka in running for Arsenal start but Giroud OUT of Hull clash

After being benched for the last two matches, the Switzerland star could be given a chance to shine at the KCOM Stadium, but his French team-mate has a knock

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could hand Granit Xhaka a recall to the starting XI when the Gunners tackle Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Switzerland international was consigned to the bench for Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain, appearing only for the final 20 minutes of the Champions League fixture at Parc des Princes.

However, after also being left out against Southampton in the 2-1 victory last weekend, the Swiss is set to replace either Santi Cazorla or Francis Coquelin for the Gunners in a deep midfield role.

Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, is set to miss out entirely. The France international striker, who was dismissed after coming on as a substitute against PSG, is struggling with an injury to his big toe and a decision was taken late on Friday that he will not be risked against Hull.

Arsenal are seventh in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s fixture, having won seven points from their opening four matches – the same tally as their opponents.
