Ramires: Mourinho right to blame players

The Brazil international says his under-fire manager is correct to publicly shame players he feels are underperforming and insists the squad is 100 per cent behind him

Ramires says Jose Mourinho has every right to criticise his Chelsea players in public as he bids to arrest their shock start to the season.

Chelsea sit in 16th position in the Premier League after losing four of their opening games having lifted the title last May.

Mourinho has publicly slammed the performances of several of his first-team players already this season and Ramires believes his manager is adopting the right approach.

“I think it very normal when we are not playing well and we are losing for the manager to take it out on the players. He needs to get a reaction," he said.

“Maybe some players are not doing what he expects them to do so that’s why he is on top of us, on top of things, trying to get a reaction because he knows he can get the best out of us.

“So we all need to calm down and we can get out of this."

Earlier this week Mourinho said he would leave the club if he had lost the support of his players, following reports several are unhappy with his methods.

But Ramires says that simply isn't the case and is adamant everyone at the club is pulling in the right direction.

"We’ve not lost a bit of trust in Jose," he added. "Everyone trusts him. We think he is the best manager for us.

"Obviously when things don’t go the way that everyone expects a lot of questions are asked. But we still trust him.

“I understand perfectly where he is coming from with what he said regarding where, if he didn’t have the confidence of the players he would step aside. But that’s not the case at all. We are all together.

“Maybe it’s a shared guilt because when things don’t got the way that everyone expects people look at the players and the manager.

"But we are all working together to get out of this situation - we want to be at the top of the table. Not the bottom.”
