Amsterdam Tournament Round-Up: Last-Gap Ajax Draw With Atletico Madrid, Benfica Oust Sunderland

Who said pre-season matches were dull?

A last-minute penalty from Luis Suarez gave Ajax a share of the spoils against Atletico Madrid in this Amsterdam Tournament friendly.

Cvitanich opened the scoring early on, but Simao and Sergio Aguero each netted before half time to give their side the lead.

Dennis Rommedahl restored parity twenty minutes from time, and although Maxi Rodriguez's goal six minutes later appeared to have provided Atleti with the win, up stepped Suarez to level it at the death.

In the earlier match, Sunderland lost out 2-0 to a strong Benfica side thanks to goals from Oscar Cardozo and Maxi Pereira.

Thus the Black Cats sit at the bottom of the rather idiosyncratic table for the tournament:

On Sunday the tournament closes as Sunderland face Atletico at 7pm CET, before Ajax and Benfica square off at 9:15pm.
