Seongnam Ilhwa Captain Sasa Ognenovski: We Can Beat Inter If We Overcome Al-Wahda

Sasa Ognenovski, captain of Seongnam Ilhwa, believes that Saturday’s Club World Cup quarter-final fixture against Al-Wahda will prove to be a tough affair, but if they can overcome that, Inter can be beaten.

The South Koreans will start their quarter-final match as favourites, but the Australian centre-back contends that home advantage will play into the hands of their opponents.

“We watched the Wahda v Hekari game and Wahda put on a good show and scored some good goals,” he is quoted as saying by Sport360. “They are the home team so they will have the support, but we’re expecting a very good match.

“Of course it would mean a lot to the players to get that chance to play Inter Milan. It would be a big honour for the club and for me to lead the guys out against Inter, but first we must get past Al Wahda.

“It’s the end of the season for us, but we’re very focused on this tournament.”

Seongnam’s ambition is greater than simply beating Al-Wahda; they also think they can shock the European champions. “Inter are having problems internally and if we do beat Wahda tonight it will be a good opportunity to beat Inter who are perhaps at their weakest point,” Ognenovski warned.

The South Koreans defeated Zob Ahan 3-1 in the final of the AFC Champions League in mid-November and are presently on a wave of confidence.
