Former Real Madrid defender Christian Panucci believes that the Spanish outfit have what it takes to win the Champions League this season.
Madrid last won Europe's most premier club competition in 2002 and for the last six years have failed to get past the Round of 16. However, Panucci, who won the Primera Division and the Champions League with the Blancos, believes that this year could be different for the Spanish giants.
"You have to be a strong club, and Real Madrid are one of the best, if not the best," explained Panucci to Madrid's official website. "You also need a great coach, and [Jose] Mourinho is. You need a great squad, which the team currently has.
"Mourinho’s project began this year and I hope he wins the title this season. I believe four or five very successful years are in store for Real Madrid because Mourinho knows how to be successful. I think the team has a great chance to win the Champions League."
Panucci, who now works as a commentator for Sky Italia, has commented on the personality of Mourinho.
"He isn’t like he appears to be on TV. He has a great heart and he is a humble person. You have to be tough in this world and follow a straight path in your career.
"Mourinho knows how to handle this world. His wife and family know him best, but you could grasp his sensitivity when he cried after receiving the FIFA World Coach of the Year award."
