Sir Alex Ferguson Can Become ‘The Greatest’ By Retaining Champions League – Jose Mourinho

The 'Special One' can't seem to run out of good things to say about his former nemesis...
Jose Mourinho has claimed that should Sir Alex Ferguson win a third Champions League crown on Wednesday night, he will become “the greatest club manager".

The Scot takes his Manchester United side to Rome next week hoping to retain the club’s European crown against Spanish champions Barcelona.

Having already claimed the title last year and in 1999, another win would see Ferguson pick up a hat-trick of European triumphs and further cement his status as a legend of the game.

Speaking to, Mourinho insisted that victory against Barcelona would see his old rival become the greatest club manager the game has seen.

“He is a super manager and a victory or defeat in this moment of his career doesn't make him any better or any worse - he has had a great career,” he explained.

“But of course if he wins on Wednesday it would make him the greatest club manager.”

The Inter manager went on to pay tribute to Sir Alex’s record and particularly his current team, by insisting that they had all the attributes required to win the game.

“Sir Alex has made a super team. Three Premier League titles in a row and two Champions league finals - that is really top,” he added.

"They have quality and experience, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

“They have absolutely everything as a team: strength, mentality, speed, magic, solutions.”

Mourinho also went on to say that whilst he had expected United to beat Arsenal in the semi-finals, the fact they had picked up another Premier League title and made it to the Champions League final again had impressed him.

"Beating Arsenal in the semi-finals [of the Champions League] didn't impress me too much. It is normal,” he said.

“But three Premier League titles and two Champions League finals, you need no more words to explain how strong they are.”
