Catolica Reach Libertadores After Eight-Goal Thriller

Universidad Catolica assured themselves of a spot in South America's ultimate club competition, the Copa Libertadores, after defeating O'Higgins 5-3 in a highly entertaining match on the weekend.

With the result, 'La U' reached 38 points, while their closest followers Palestino, accumulated 33 points. Catolica return to the competition after a three year absence.

They won the match with two own goals from Federico Martorell and Cristobal Gonzalez, and with two goals from Emiliano Hernandez, and Cristian Milla. O'Higgins' goals were converted by Nestor Bareiro, Ailton Da Silva and Jean Beausejour.

Meanwhile, Colo Colo claimed a 2-0 victory over Huachipato, with two goals from Daud Gazale, one in each half. With the triumph, the first away from home in Marcelo Barticciotto's era, Colo Colo qualified for the playoffs.

In other results, Universidad Concepcion beat Cobresal 3-1; Audax Italiano and Nublense drew 1-1; and Everton defeated Osorno 3-1.

While Deportes La Serena thrashed Palestino 3-0; Santiago Morning thumped Melipilla 5-1; and Union Espanola overcame Rangers de Talca 2-1.

Finally, Universidad Catolica edged Cobreloa 4-3, a result that keeps alive their possibilities of advancing to the playoffs. They find themselves in third position of Group 2, with 26 points, one less than Rangers and La Serena, with 27 points.
