According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Eredivisie giants Ajax are on the verge of signing talented youngster Mats Rits from Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. However, Real Madrid are reportedly also closely monitoring the 15-year-old's situation.
"Real Madrid offered Mats a contract too, but we turned them down. Madrid is simply too far away from Antwerpen and we don't want to lose our son like this," said the youngster's father to Het Laatste Nieuws.
"We haven't made a final decision yet, but it's going to be Ajax or GBA. Amsterdam isn't that far away and we were impressed with what we saw at Ajax. Their youth academy is world famous."
Rits wouldn't be the first Belgian youngster to leave GBA for Ajax in case he opts to sign for the Amsterdam outfit. Tom de Mul, Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen and Toby Alderweireld all made it to Ajax's first team after leaving GBA for the UEFA Cup hopefuls.
Ajax are quite active on the transfer market at the moment. They're reportedly also on the verge of hijacking Manchester United's Nicola Boilesen deal.
