PSV coach Fred Rutten is determined to hold on to first spot in Group I of the Europa League when his men take on Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday evening.
"It’s been a while since we last met Metalist Kharkiv,” said Rutten, referring to PSV's 2-0 win in Kharkiv at the end of September on Matchday 2.
"Both teams are already certain of a place in the round of 32, but a place at the top of Group I is at stake. I had a look at the pros and cons of finishing top. It does not really matter that much but there is a tiny little advantage of maintaining top position in our group and that’s what we’re aiming at.
"Metalist are tough opponents, who are unbeaten on their travels this season. They field a number of Brazilians who threaten on the counter attack. We want to keep the three points in Eindhoven.
"They will probably keep plenty of players behind the ball. They usually don’t play an open game. They play a solid and compact defence and have conceded few goals on their travels in Europe. It’s up to us to find a solution."
