Jonathan Mensah Decides To Stay At Free State Stars

Free State Stars defender Jonathan Mensah has declared his commitment to the club for the remainder of this season after shelving plans to return to Greece.
Mensah retuned back to Ea Lla Koto a few weeks ago after undergoing trials with Greek side Panathinaikos, where he is reported to have done well.

The Ghanaian defender told KickOff.com that he was unable to join the club because they had already exhausted their foreign player quota but added that he has received another invitation to attend trials in Greece.

He said he has decided to turn it down and rather concentrate on his career with Free State Stars.

“I did well in my trials with Panathinaikos but they had already signed five foreign players," he said. "They tried to organise a move for me to another club and then I could have moved back to them next season but I decided to come back and concentrate on my career at Stars for this season.

“My agent has told me that there other clubs in Greece that are also interested in my services.”

Mensah also spoke highly of South Africa defender Bryce Moon, saying he had received good treatment and assistance from Moon during his time at Panathinaikos.

“He is great guy with a tremendous personality. His presence helped me lot during the trials. We shared a room during the team’s pre-season in Switzerland,” he explained.
