Modise will be wearing the latest innovation from the leading sportswear manufacturers in his club’s Nedbank Cup tie against Bloemfontein Celtic at Olen Park.
Modise will be the first South African to use the boot that both
Manchester winger Cristiano Ronaldo and Inter Milan striker Zlatan
Ibrahimovic first used when their clubs met in the UEFA Champions
League last week.
Other stars using the boot are Chelsea forward Didier Drogba, French international Franck Ribery and Brazilian star Robinho. Modise will also use the same boot when Bafana Bafana square up with
Norway next weekend and against Portugal, who are expected to have
Ronaldo (using the same boot) in their line-up.
“I received the boots this week and have been training in them," Modise said. "They
are super light and have moulded to my feet well as I don’t feel a drag
in my reaction time to a sprint."
Ironically, Modise first used the previous innovation from Nike – the
Mercurial Vapor Roser (Pink Panther) for the first time against Celtic
in the Telkom Knockout semifinal in Durban late last year that Pirates
The SuperFly is unique in that it is Nike’s lightest and fastest boot
ever, weighing in at just 185 grams and designed to take on-pitch
speeds to new levels through a combination of materials, technologies,
craftsmanship and passion.
