Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo will not be a part of the Olympic team to face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday because his Spanish club Granada have refused to release him for the game.
The club have said that Ighalo will not be part of the Nigeria squad because it is not a FIFA day. Expressing his disappointment, Ighalo has said in a statement, “It’s painful that I will not be part of the team that started a very good job in Benin and I hope the NFF will understand my stand, even as I hope to be available for subsequent games.”
Ighalo opened the scoring in the 5-0 defeat of the Equatoguineans in Benin City during the first leg. The Dream Team IV is expected to consolidate on its first leg performance to get through to the next round.
However, another invitee midfielder Eke Uzoma of Arminia Bielefeld will not be part of the team as he has cupped a thigh injury at his club and is expected by medics to rest this weekend.
