Amsterdam outfit Ajax aren’t convinced of the qualities of Russian defender Gia Grigalava and have made the decision not to offer him a contract.
The 19-year-old currently plays for Russian side FK Rostov and was on a trial period at Ajax for the past couple of days. The youngster can play as a centre back as well as left back.
“It’s never a bad thing to offer a talented player the chance to prove his worth. Grigalava’s a versatile defender who’s strong off the ball and skilled on the ball. Nevertheless, he’s not good enough for us yet,” said Ajax’s technical director Danny Blind.
Ajax’s decision not to sign the left footed defender is good news for Russian sides CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow. Both clubs are interested in signing the talented youngster and are expected to make a move for Grigalava in the upcoming days.
Meanwhile, the Amsterdam giants are no longer interested in Serbian midfielder Filip Djuricic. Ajax have decided that they don’t need a new playmaker in the near future. The hot prospect has also attracted the interest of Manchester United.
