Wolfsburg's Felix Magath asks for more money following cup exit

German tactician feels a playmaker is necessary for his side as the start of the Bundesliga season draws ever closer
Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath has told the club's board that he needs more money for transfers following his side's shock 3-2 DFB Pokal defeat to RB Leipzig.

Magath's men succumbed to a Daniel Frahn hat-trick as the Regionalliga Nord side pulled off their surprise victory, and despite have already brought in the likes of Christian Trasch, Marco Russ and Hasan Salihamidzic, the Wolfsburg boss is eager for the spending to continue, with Werder Bremen's Marko Marin reportedly high on his shopping list.

After the cup upset, Magath told Bild: "I've misjudged the team. We cannot start in the Bundesliga, something has to change. Now, for example, to speak about a No.10 would be the wrong approach, because we have to find the best solution."

The 2009 champions endured a difficult season last time around, narrowly avoiding a humiliating relegation play-off. Wolfsburg kick off their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday away to Koln.
