As of late, the Bundesliga has become a bastion for Japanese players in Europe. According to reports from the Far East, Urawa Red Diamonds star Hajime Hosogai will soon join many of his fellow countrymen in Germany when he signs with Bayer Leverkusen.
"I made a positive decision to put myself in an environment that will be tough for me," Hosogai told the Kyodo news agency.
The 24-year old is capable of playing both in defensive midfield and central defence. Rumour has it that Leverkusen will immediately loan the three-times capped Japan international to second division club Augsburg, where he will acclimatise to his new working environment.
Leverkusen have yet to announce an official deal, but are expected to do so within the next few days.
