Ruud van Nistelrooy’s somewhat testing time in Hamburg could be drawing towards a close, and a report in L’Equipe suggests that former club PSV could make a move for the aging Dutch striker.
HSV relegated former Manchester United and Real Madrid goal poacher Van Nistelrooy to the bench during their 2-1 success over Borussia Moenchengladbach, and even when he was brought onto the field the veteran failed to look sharp, missing a glorious chance to strike a third for his side.
With the form of the 34-year-old under scrutiny, he could be ready to make a move back home to the Netherlands, where PSV are reportedly tracking his progress. Having scored 62 goals in 67 games for the Eindhoven club in his previous spell, he is something of a hero with the Boeren, though his wage demands could be problematic.
Should a surprise move take off, it would see the end of Marcus Berg’s loan deal with the Eredivisie side.
