The future of coveted midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger remains uncertain as the player continues to negotiate a potential contract extension at Bayern Munich, while considering offers from abroad. According to international team-mate Sami Khedira, the 26-year-old has expressed interest in Real Madrid, whose coach Jose Mourinho has previously made very clear his high esteem of Schweinsteiger.
"If Mourinho talks about a player, then you can take him very seriously," Khedira told Sport Bild. "Bastian has asked me about how things are at Real."
Khedira also made it clear that his discussions with Schweinsteiger had nothing to do with Mourinho's comments: "We spoke about Real before Mourinho's statements, as we have a very good, open relationship."
Word from Munich is that Bayern have offered Schweinsteiger an extension until 2016 which will see the midfielder earn a figure in excess of €10 million annually. The player has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, however, and his transfer remains a possibility.
