Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger Backs Inter Star Wesley Sneijder For Ballon D'Or

Bastian Schweinsteiger may be a candidate for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, but the Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder has tipped Wesley Sneijder to win the prestigious award.

"Wesley Sneijder deserves it," the 26-year-old told France Football. "He is the player who, to me, made the strongest impression. If, after winning the Champions League, he had won the World Cup, he would have earned the golden ball as well. He had a great year."

Schweinsteiger ruled himself out of the running for the award, because he did not win any major international titles.

"That's why the Spaniards, like Xavi and Iniesta and the Inter players are favoured," he said.

Schweinsteiger won the domestic double with Bayern, but missed out on the treble after his side lost to Inter in the Champions League final. Two months later, his Germany finished third at the World Cup after losing to eventual winners Spain.
