Bayern Munich Starlet Mehmet Ekici To Snub Germany And Play For Turkey

Germany U-21 starlet Mehmet Ekici has opted to play for Turkey at the senior international level.
Turkey may have been unable to convince Mesut Oezil and Serdar Tasci to play for their national team, but on the whole, the Crescent Stars continue to have success in recruiting German-born players of Turkish descent. On Friday, the Turkish FA announced in a press release that Bayern Munich starlet Mehmet Ekici has chosen to play for the country of his ancestors.

Born in Munich, the 20-year-old midfielder has been a part of Bayern's youth program since 1997. After three years in the reserves, he moved to Nuernberg on loan, where he has scored once in eight appearances. Though long considered a top prospect, Ekici has only made eight appearances for Germany youth teams between the U-17 and U-21 levels. If he continues to make progress, however, he might soon earn a call-up to the Turkey senior side.
