Schalke have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Wolfsburg playmaker Zvjezdan Misimovic.
"Our interest in Misimovic existed - I called (Wolfsburg technical director) Dieter Hoeness," coach Felix Magath said, according to Sport.de. "His demand was that he exchange Misimovic for (Jefferson) Farfan. I rejected that. Jeff is not subject to negotiations."
Earlier today, Goal.com reported that Magath had turned his sights towards Real Madrid playmaker Rafael van der Vaart as an alternative solution. The Schalke boss fueled this report by confirming his interest in the Dutchman.
"Raul thinks very much of him. Rafael has shown from his time in Hamburg that he can play well in the Bundesliga."
However, Magath has warned that he is not at all desperate to sign the 27-year old, and could pass on the opportunity if the demand of player or Madrid are too great.
"He would fit well here, but we cannot and will not meet all demands."
