Werder Bremen Announce Signing Of Wesley From Santos

The Bundesliga outfit have snapped up a signing for the post-Oezil era...
Werder Bremen have announced that they have reached an agreement with Santos to sign starlet Wesley on a four-year deal through their official website. The midfielder arrives as a replacement for playmaker Mesut Oezil, who left for Real Madrid this summer.

"We needed great patience and have now been rewarded, reinforcing with Wesley who is a very versatile and dynamic player and can play in all midfield positions," said sporting director Klaus Allofs.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the Weserstadion until June 2014 and earlier reports have suggested the transfer fee is in the region of €7.5 million.

"It's my dream to play in a top league with a top club. I am overjoyed that this has worked out with Werder Bremen. I look forward to [moving to] the city and making the fans happy," the new signing told werder.de.

Head coach Thomas Schaaf was also delighted with the signing of the Brazilian.

"We have always said we are looking for interesting players and were specifically looking at Wesley with interest," he explained.

"The transfer has now been realised and further increases the quality of our team. Our attention, however, should now be on the Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim."
