Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are considering making a move for Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg, currently under contract with Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax, according to a report in Kicker.
The Bavarians are in the market for a new shot stopper to fight it out for the number one jersey with veteran goalkeeper Hans-Joerg Butt and head coach Louis van Gaal supposedly sees Stekelenburg as the perfect addition to his squad.
The 27-year-old custodian is a product of the Ajax youth academy and has made well over 150 Eredivisie appearances for the Godenzonen since making his official debut in 2002-03. Stekelenburg has been in impressive form at the 2010 World Cup and this hasn't gone unnoticed elsewhere.
Stekelenburg has an ongoing contract with Ajax, but the Amsterdam side are supposedly ready to cash in on their goalkeeper if a big money offer comes in. Bayern Munich reportedly face stiff competition from Villarreal in the race for Stekelenburg's services.
